Škoda has unveiled the newest member to its stable, a large hatchback called the Scala. Built on the company's MQB A0 platform, the Scala measures over 4 metres in length and is styled along the contours of the Vision RS concept.
As part of Škoda's 2.0 strategy, the company has already announced the introduction of an SUV to the Indian market by 2020, followed by a sedan. Now, it seems it is also evaluating the launch of the Scala for India.
Internationally, the Scala comes with three engine options. A 1-litre petrol that is tuned to produce 95 hp and 115 hp, a 1.6-litre diesel that puts out 115 hp and a CNG-powered engine, all mated to a 7-speed direct-shift gearbox (DSG).
The interiors are all new, too. the car gets a large 9-inch touchscreen media centre along with a 10-inch display that is virtual cockpit ready. And for the practical stuff, Škoda has tricked out the Scala with holders for umbrellas in doors, USB ports for each passenger and even food trays in the backs of seats. The boot is quite voluminous as well at 467 litres.
Now if the Scala does come to India, it will come through the CKD route and will not qualify for any tax breaks because of the 4-metre size of the hatchback.Track Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections Results Live Updates here
