PRO for PM Narendra Modi’s office, Jagdish Thakkar, dies
TNN | Dec 11, 2018, 06:58 ISTAHMEDABAD: Jagdish Thakkar, public relations officer at the Prime Minister’s Office and a senior journalist, died at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi on Monday.
Thakkar, 72, had served the same role in Gujarat at the chief minister’s office of 10 different leaders, from 1986 to 2014. The CMs include Congress’s Madhavsinh Solanki, Janata Dal’s Chimanbhai Patel, BJP’s Keshubhai Patel, rebel Rashtriya Janata Party’s Shankersinh Vaghela, and finally Narendra Modi. In fact, Thakkar’s friends would often teasingly tell him that if he were to write his autobiography, readers would get a ringside view of Gujarat’s complex political history in just a single book.
Modi tweeted: “Extremely saddened by the demise of Shri Jagdish Thakkar, the PRO in the PMO.”
“Jagdishbhai was a veteran journalist and I had the pleasure of working with him for years, in Gujarat and in Delhi. He was known for his simplicity and warm-hearted nature.”
In another tweet, Modi said: “We have lost a wonderful person, who loved his work and did it with utmost diligence. Condolences to his family and well-wishers.”
Modi also personally met Thakkar’s family: his wife Vibha, a social worker; and his son and daughter-in-law.
“His integrity and commitment to the work was exemplary,” former CM Keshubhai Patel said.
