BJP worker killed, Union minister blasts Bengal government

NEW DELHI: A BJP worker died and his party colleague was injured in an attack by bike-borne goons when the duo was returning from a party meeting at Kanksa on Sunday night. Union minister Babul Supriyo reacted on Monday saying West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was “polishing her prime ministerial ambitions” in the national capital at a time when “political violence” in her state continued unabated.

Supriyo, who represents Asansol Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, said BJP worker Sandip Ghosh’s killers, allegedly belonging to the ruling Trinamool Congress, were still at large. He alleged that the local administration and police have turned into “TMC cadre”.

“It is shameful that Mamata Banerjee is polishing her prime ministerial ambitions in Delhi while attacks on BJP workers and political violence continues unabated in her state,” he said at a press conference.

Mamata Banerjee was among the top leaders of opposition parties, which met here on Monday as part of attempts to forge a united front to take on BJP in the Lok Sabha polls next year.

Supriyo said, “The killing of one worker is overshadowed by another in West Bengal. Political violence in six years of Mamata Banejee’s rule has eclipsed that during the 34 years of Left rule in the state.”

He also accused the TMC government of obstructing and giving a "communal colour" to BJP's proposed Rath Yatra in the state.
