Man conned into marrying married woman

Vadodara: Three years after a turbulent marriage, Harshal Patil, a resident of Navapura, was shocked to find out that the woman with whom he had tie dthe knot was already married.
Patil realized that he was cheated by his wife Divya and her family members, who had immediately started harassing him for money after the marriage. Harshal’s sister Chhaya finally approached the Navapura police and lodged a complaint against Divya and her four family members.

Chhaya told police that the five persons had approached her three years ago and introduced Divya to her family. They told the Patil family that they were looking for a groom for Divya and wanted to fix up her marriage with Harshal.

The Patil family met Divya and after some more meetings, her marriage was fixed with Harshal in 2015. Chhaya told police that after marriage Divya started mentally torturing Harshal and began splurging the money he brought home.

In 2016, her father Yogesh Patil came to meet Divya on a festive occasion and took her along. Chhaya said in her complaint that Divya later began threatening Harshal and his family of filing a complaint of dowry against them.

According to the complainant, Divya, Yogesh and the other accused identified as Kokila Patil, Chandralekha Patil and Rahul Patil ganged up and demanded Rs 10 lakh from Chhaya’s family.

Chhaya also said that Divya was already married and she and her family hid the fact from them. The complainant said that Divya later filed a complaint of domestic violence and dowry at Navapura police station and later demanded huge amount of money from them for settling the case.

According to Chhaya, Divya had got married to her neighbour Ajay Gandhi in 2014 but she and the other accused hid it from the complainant’s family to extort money from them. They even found found Divya and Ajay’s marriage registration certificate and gave it to the police.
