Cape Town – It’s been a month since Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade welcomed their baby girl Kaavia James via surrogate.
The actress who has been very open about her fertility struggles has shared the emotional journey of her daughter’s birth.
Gabrielle shared a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram on Monday which documented the month’s leading up to Kaavia’s birth.
She captioned the video: “Every family is unique. How each family is created and comes together is special. Kaavia James Union Wade journey into our arms was long and at times brutal. There were heartbreaks that nearly broke us and streams of tears that turned into raging rivers.”
“And then came Kaavia James. This is our birth journey. Thank you all for the love, support and understanding and all the people who held us up when we lost hope. Watch it with love. Watch it with hope.”
In the clip the Being Mary Jane actress reveals why they decided to go the gestational surrogate route, opens up about her fear that she would not have a special bond with her baby because she didn’t carry her and what it means to her to be raising a ‘little black woman’.
