RajasthanCongress President Sachin Pilot is leading in the Tonk constituency against the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) Yunus Khan, according to early trends.
The Congress has been widely seen as a favourite to win in the state, where many voters have expressed their dissatisfaction with incumbent chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
Rajasthan has been voting out the incumbent government in every state election since 1993. Of the five exit polls that announced projections for the state, four gave a clear edge to the Congress.
"People have made up their mind—we are getting an overwhelming response to our campaign and with the Prime Minister and Mr. (Amit) Shah and other BJP leaders coming here; they are only making noise, but it can never be converted into votes because people have made up their minds. We are going to win," Pilot had told HuffPost India in an interview last week.
Journalists have tweeted that Pilot's supporters are already celebrating in the expectation that he will win, though there is still no clarity on who will become the CM if Congress does, indeed, win—Pilot of former CM Ashok Gehlot.
