Three-day old baby sold for Rs 25K, rescued
tnn | Dec 12, 2018, 01:08 ISTCoimbatore: Childline and police have rescued a newborn baby from a couple at Tatabad, who had brought the baby from the biological parents for Rs 25,000 recently. The incident came to light when Childline had received a tip about it.
Jayalakshmi, wife of Venkatesan from Sulur, gave birth to her fourth child, a baby boy, at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on December 6. On December 9, Venkatesan had arranged for his wife and baby to get discharged. He sold the newborn to another couple, Sumathi and Muthukumar, from Tatabad for Rs 25,000 on the same day, police said.
“After being informed, Childline and we traced down the couple who bought the baby and rescued it. We also tracked down the couple who sold it. We will hand over the baby to Don Bosco Illam on Wednesday,” a police officer said.
The formal first information report (FIR) will be registered on Wednesday, a childline representative said.
