MNF wrests power in Mizoram as Congress’s last Northeast bastion falls

The MNF has won 21 seats in the 40-member Mizoram assembly and is currently leading in five.

The Mizo National Front (MNF) has attained simple majority to be eligible to stake claim to form the government in the Northeastern state.

The MNF has won 21 seats in the 40-member Mizoram assembly and is leading in five.

With that, the Congress has been completely wiped out from the Northeast. The Mizoram was its only bastion in Northeast India.

The Congress has won only 5 seats and is leading in five. The Grand Old Party had won 34 seats in 2013 assembly election.
