Polokwane and Highlands share the spoils after entertaining clash

2018-12-11 22:27

Cape Town - Both teams had their chances to take all three points, but it ended 2-2 in an eventful PSL clash between Polokwane and Highlands Park at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

The result sees Rise and Shine move up to fourth on the table, with Highlands staying in ninth place.

The visitors dominated possession early on, so it was somewhat against the run of play when Mohammed Anas headed Polokwane in front in the 18th minute.

Highlands kept their heads down and continued to fight, however, and were rewarded with an equaliser 10 minutes before the break from Mothobi Mvala.

Seven minutes into the second half the visitors were in front thanks to a well-taken strike from Moeketsi Sekola, his first of the season in the Absa Premiership.

But Highlands' lead would last just one minute before Polokwane hit back in deadly fashion through Wiseman Maluleke to get back on level terms.

The home side was lucky not go behind again in the 67th minute after their keeper failed to hold on to the ball following a quickly-taken corner. Highlands had three cracks at goal but couldn't convert as a whole host of Polokwane defenders guarded the line.

Rise and Shine had a golden opportunity to take the lead with 10 minutes to go on the clock after Highlands conceded a clumsy penalty, but Anas missed from the spot and they had to settle for a share of the spoils.
