HYDERABAD: MIM leader and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi made a quick ride to Pragathi Bhavan on Monday and reassured chief minister and TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao of his party’s support to TRS, if required, after results for the Telangana assembly elections to be declared on Tuesday do not offer a simple majority for the ruling party.

Riding a Triumph motorbike and making sure to wear a helmet, Asaduddin went to the high-security camp office of the chief minister at Begumpet. After the meeting with KCR, he rode out of Pragathi Bhavan. Later speaking to reporters, Owaisi said during the three-hour long meeting with KCR, he had made no demands whatsoever. “KCR is confident of coming back to power. He will not even require MIM’s support. But we will stand by him because we want Telangana’s development,” he said.

Owaisi dismissed a question about whether a demand was made for the deputy chief minister’s post for the MIM. “We have no interest in joining the government,” he said. “I am sure he will not require MIM’s support but we will stand with him like we have always done in the past,” he said.

Asaduddin Owaisi made it amply clear much before he met KCR that MIM would support TRS. “I’ll be meeting Telangana’s caretaker and next CM of Telangana, KCR sahab at 1.30 pm today. Inshallah he’ll form government on his own strength, and Majlis will stand by him. This is our first step towards a larger goal of nation building,” he said in a tweet.

To another question about TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy, Owaisi commented: “Two days ago, Uttam Kumar Reddy was watching a film. He can continue to watch films as the Telangana picture is over for him.” .

Both KCR and MIM had declared much before the polls that they were ‘friendly parties’. Though TRS fielded its candidates from the seven seats the MIM held, it was only as a strategy and not really to dislodge the MIM. However, in another seat Rajendranagar, both MIM and TRS fielded candidates, which appeared to be a serious contest.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had in the past said on several occasions that it was Asaduddin Owaisi who had informed him about a conspiracy in Delhi to dislodge the TRS government in Telangana after it had come to power in the 2014 elections.
