Director Harpreet Matharoo, whose upcoming Punjabi film Deyo Wadhaiyan Sada Vii Viah Hogaya will mark the comeback of Pakistani actor Veena Malik, talks about the growing stature of Punjabi cinema. He says: “Even Hollywood is looking to cash on the Punjabi boom and the example is The Black Prince directed by Kavi Raz, a high-budget Hollywood film that had cast and crew from Hollywood. Today’s Punjabi cinema is not confined to a region or state, as the Indian audience is keen to watch new-age films. The standard of music is good, substantiated by the fact that Bollywood is using Punjabi songs in a big way.” Matharoo is happy that Punjabi is now on a par with international cinema.
