PATNA: The state transport department is soon going to construct 300 concrete bus stops across the state, including 10 in big districts and five in small ones with an estimated expenditure of Rs 15 crore. The department is busy finalizing the design of the bus stops, which will be 20X7 feet in size.
According to transport department secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, DMs of all 38 districts will soon be asked to identify the locations, including national highways, state highways and major district roads, where bus stops will be developed. “Certain parameters for site selection have been fixed. Big districts with a population above 15 lakh will have 10 bus stops, while the small ones will get five bus stops,” Agarwal said on Saturday.
The bus stops will be constructed from road safety point of view. “The construction of each bus stop will cost around Rs 5 lakh. It will have enough space with concrete seats,” the transport secretary told this reporter, adding the construction work was likely to begin this month.
The announcement for construction of bus stops was made by chief Nitish Kumar at the launch of ‘Gram Parivahan Yojana’ in October.
“Funds for construction of bus stops will be transferred to the district administration once the corresponding design is finalized. The utilization of funds will be monitored by the road safety committee,” Agarwal said and added adding the same design would be used in all districts.
