Gurgaon: Five people were killed and two sustained injuries in a road accident at Saharanwas on Rewari-Mahendergarh Road on Sunday night.
According to police, four people — Raj Singh, Rakesh (an advocate), Billu Sarpanch, a resident of Surakpur village, and Bhopal Singh (lecturer at a private college in Rewari), a resident of Murlipur— were returning to Rewari in the SUV, a white Ertiga, after attending a wedding in Mahendergarh.

The speeding SUV, which was being driven by Raj Singh, lost control around 10.30pm near a fuel station at Sahranwas village. It rammed into a road divider, and was tossed to the other side of the road where it rolled over multiple times before colliding with a pick-up van coming from the Rewari side. While Rakesh, Billu Sarpanch and Bhopal Singh died on the spot, driver Raj Singh is under treatment at a private hospital.

The pick-up van was returning from Rewari mandi. Ajit (the driver), Surender (a farmer) and Sher Singh, who had taken a lift, were in the pick-up van when it got hit by the Ertiga. Ajit and Surender— both residents of Rampuri village— died, while Sher Singh, a resident of Sia village, was discharged from hospital on Monday evening.

Except Sher Singh (55), all others are between 30 and 35 years old, police said.

Station house officer (SHO) of Rampura Vidya Sagar said the police control room had received a call informing it about the accident. “We immediately went to the spot,” said the SHO, adding two persons were taken to hospital in a PCR vehicle by 10.40pmwhile four were accommodated in two ambulances.

“Raj had managed to come out of the vehicle and had contacted someone who took him to Maitri Hospital,” said Vidya Sagar. “The pick-up van driver was not at fault,” said the officer, adding that a case had been registered against Raj for rash and negligent driving and causing accidental death. Police are are waiting for the doctor’s approval to record Raj’s statement.
