Mirrabooka MP drops 'C-bomb' at parliament function, but have times changed?

Mirrabooka MP Janine Freeman dropped the 'C-word' at a function held at Parliament House on Friday afternoon.

6PR's Oliver Peterson reported on Perth Live Ms Freeman used the word in reference to a joke by comedian and Malcolm Turnbull impersonator Lawrence Mooney.

She was speaking to a Christmas function of Labor staffers.

It is understood from the context of the speech, Ms Freeman did not mean the comment to be offensive and it was intended to be humorous.

According to a source, it was apparent that Ms Freeman was using the word to mock its use rather than to be derogatory.

The use of the word relates to a wider debate about why it is acceptable to use slang words in relation to male anatomy, but is seen as obscene when it relates to women.

The word is commonly used in Labor circles where robust language has traditionally been considered part of the cut and thrust of political debate.

In 2014, federal Liberal minister Christoper Pyne denied using the word c--- in a parliamentary debate with Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.

Mr Pyne was seen at the dispatch box delivering a tirade at Mr Shorten.

When he was interrupted he said, "You're such a ...", but the last word in his sentence is difficult to hear.

Mr Pyne denied using the C-word and instead claimed he said, "grub".

Ms Freeman has been contacted for comment.
