The Decision Review System (DRS) came in for some analysis and heartburn when Australia captain Tim Paine was questioned about the process and its ramifications during the course of the first Test here.
“It’s one of those things. You can't do much about it. We have been told Aaron's (Finch’s dismissal), for instance, would still not have been overturned,” Paine said on Monday.
It may be recalled that Finch, after seemingly edging R. Ashwin, had accepted the umpire’s verdict during Australia’s doomed second innings. Later, replays proved that the edge was inconclusive and it was felt that the opener missed a trick in not seeking a review.
“Aaron felt something on his glove, it ended up being his pad, that can happen,” Paine explained.
The host skipper’s grouse against the current method was that in terms of height, some deliveries were adjudged going above the stumps.
“A lot of balls seem to be going over the top of the stumps, but on ‘live’ (action) they don't look like they are. So, yeah, it is what it is!” Paine countered.
“Look, it’s not a perfect system and I haven’t got the answers. It’s just frustrating,” he added.
