Lok Adalat settles 1,648 cases in a day in Gurugram

GURUGRAM: As many as 1,648 cases were settled in the National Lok Adalat, organised by District Legal Services Authority on the directions of National Legal Services Authority, at the Gurgaon district court on Saturday. The “people’s court” settled claims amounting to around Rs 9 crore.
All types of pre-litigative and pending cases, especially criminal compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 (Negotiable Instrument Act), recovery cases, matrimonial disputes, labour disputes, traffic challans, pre-bargaining cases, bank loan cases and other civil matters were taken up at the Lok Adalat. “Lok Adalat is an attempt by DLSA to resolve cases in whatever manner they can be, to the satisfaction of both parties. It will also cut down their expenses and save time. Solutions are binding on both parties,” said chief judicial magistrate and DLSA secretary, Narender Kumar.
Of the 2,885 cases taken up, 1,648 were settled amicably, involving a total award of Rs 9 crore. Along with pending cases, 877 pre-litigation cases were also taken up and resolved.
