MUMBAI: SWIFT India Domestic Services, the local unit of SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) global that facilitates international payments functions for banks, has appointed Arundhati Bhattacharya, former chairman of State Bank of India, as its chairman.
Bhattacharya, who had served nearly four decades at the State Bank of India, would succeed MV Nair who retires after about five years of heading SWIFT India. This is an interesting time for SWIFT too as developments in financial technology space is throwing up new challenges for the institution.
“The venture has a huge potential to contribute significantly to the financial community in many domains,” said Bhattacharya. Nair has been instrumental in the formation of the joint venture and thereafter through meaningful engagement in bringing the financial community closer to SWIFT India. He played an active role in furthering the trade digitisation agenda that will provide significant benefits to the community.
