A police inspector posted in Bihar's Siwan district has been suspended after a video purportedly showing him consuming alcohol went viral on social media, a senior police officer said Monday.
The purported video clip of the inspector consuming liquor with his relatives went viral on Saturday.
"Manoj Singh, the circle inspector of Aandar police station in Siwan district, has been suspended on Sunday after he was seen consuming alcohol in the video clip that he received on Saturday," Siwan Superintendent of Police Naveen Chand Jha told PTI over phone.
Stern action would be taken against the offender, he said adding that video clip has been sent to the state forensic science laboratory to ascertain the authenticity.
The action has been initiated against the circle inspector on the directive of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Saran Range) V K Srivastava.
Total prohibition is in force in Bihar since April 2016.
