Five things to watch out for on December 11

The month-long Winter Session of Parliament starts today. This is the last full-fledged Parliament session of the Narendra Modi-led government before the Lok Sabha polls. The results of the Assembly elections, in which both the ruling BJP and the Congress have high stakes, is bound to cast a shadow on parliamentary proceedings. The government will push for the passage of the Triple Talaq bill pending in the Rajya Sabha. It would also aim to get the Indian Medical Council amendment ordinance and the companies amendment ordinance passed as bills.

The results of the Assembly elections in five States -- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram -- will be out today. Exit polls on Friday predicted a tight finish between the BJP and the Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and a win for the opposition party in Rajasthan.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has postponed the vote on the Brexit deal. The UK Parliament was to have voted on it today.   This is a clear sign that May did not believe that she could get the requisite number of votes in Parliament to push the deal through.

Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai testifies before US House Judiciary Committee on Alphabet Inc's social media practices. Pichai had agreed to testify before the panel over Republican concerns that the company is biased against conservatives after it skipped a high-profile Senate hearing. Google has denied the allegation that it is biased toward conservatives.

Kerala Government's Design Kerala Summit opens today. The focus of the two-day summit is to seek solutions in re-building the flood-ravaged State. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijaya will address the summit on Wednesday.
