Man stabs wife to death for refusing sex

Tirupur: A 32-year-old alcoholic stabbed his 30-year-old wife to death after she refused to have sex with him at KVR Nagar here on Sunday night. The man, who also attempted to attack his mother-in-law with knife, surrendered before the Tirupur central police on Monday morning.
According to police, S Moorthy, of KVR Nagar, used to consume alcohol daily and fight with his wife M Gomathi. “The two were employed with a nearby textile printing unit. Gomathi’s mother Jothi was also staying with them,” an investigation officer said.

On Sunday night, Moorthy came home drunk as usual and picked up a quarrel with his wife, the officer said. “He also thrashed her severely and later asked her to have sex with him. When she refused, he thrashed her again and in a fit of rage took out a knife and stabbed her on the throat,” the officer said.

Hearing her screaming, Gomathi’s mother, who was asleep in the house, rushed to her rescue and found her daughter in a pool of blood. Moorthy also attempted to stab Jothi, but the neighbours, who came to their house on hearing the commotion, saved her, the officer said. Jothi, however, sustained minor injuries, and she was taken to the government hospital in Tirupur.

Meanwhile, Moorthy managed to escape from the spot. When alerted, the Tirupur central police sent Gomathi’s body to the government hospital for postmortem.

On Monday morning, Moorthy surrendered before the Tirupur central police, who registered a case of murder and arrested him. He was later produced before a local court, which remanded him in judicial custody. Moorthy was subsequently lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
