COIMBATORE: Around 7000 village administrative officers in Tamil Nadu launched and indefinite strike on Monday demanding basic facilities
A group of VAOs led by K Saravanan, district secretary, Tamil Nadu Village Administrative Officers Association (TNVAOA), started the strike in front of Alandurai town panchayat office on Monday morning.
"We are not protesting for our salary hikes. We are protesting for our rights. Most of the office of the VAOs do not have basic facilities like electricity, drinking water and toilets. We are demanding the government to provide basic amenities for us," said Saravanan.
He said the state government did not provide internet connection for VAOs to issue online certificates. Instead VAOs spend their own money for internet charges, he said.
"We have started the protest in the name of 'towards the people'. We will reach out to villagers and explain our demands," said Saravanan.
