Would you travel somewhere just for the Instagram? Many, many people do.
Capturing the moment is everything.
Whether it's a beautiful backdrop of a vast, green landscape, the Karoo or a suspension bridge over the Storms River mouth, Instagram is lit with images of some of the best local nature destinations.
Our feeds are populated with images of South Africa's rich nature offering, from desert to beach, it sweeps us off our feet every day.
Here are some of the most Instagrammed local spots:
Tankwa Karoo National Park
Home to the famous annual AfrikaBurn festival, Tankwa is drier than a Savanna and hotter than a dollop of wasabi. It's photographed to death during the festival, but it's also a place beloved by travellers year round.
Muizenberg, Cape Town
Synonymous with Muizenberg Beach, this stretch of colourful huts is a very popular image on Insta.
Table Mountain National Park
A trip to Cape Town isn't complete without heading up Table Mountain. Whether you do so on foot or via cableway, it's your prerogative, but go you must.
And if you like living on the edge, there are plenty of rocks, perfect for posing. Yet, most are close to what seems a very scary-looking abyss.
Boulders Beach, Cape Town
For most travellers, seeing the penguin colony at Boulders is an itinerary-first.
It is one of the world's most Instagrammed beaches. It is nature at its most pristine. And you can even swim with penguins. Bonus! (Just don't get too close, they do bite).
Tulbagh, Western Cape winelands
Fringed on three sides by mountains, it's hard not to get a good picture here. Home to comfy cottages with spectacular views, it's the perfect weekend getaway dorpie.
Golden Gate Highlands National Park, The Free State
Well worth a visit if you're in the Clarens area. Nestled among the Maluti Mountains this is a sight for sore eyes.
The Panorama Route, Mpumalanga
Take this incredibly scenic route and stand in awe of the world's largest green canyon, Blyde River Canyon.
Bloukrans
Known as the world's highest bungee bridge, the area surrounding this adrenaline-junkie haven is superlative.
Suspension bridge, Tsitsikamma National Park
Hanging over the red-brown waters of the Storms River mouth, this bridge is one worth crossing.
Bo-Kaap, Cape Town
One of Cape Town's most vibrant areas to visit, it's known for its colourfully painted homes.
