Nathan Lyon won't be happy with his skipper after beating Ashwin all ends up. The ball turned sharply to be the advancing slogger and Paine goes nowhere near completing the stumping as it floats by the leg stump.
Australia v India Live: Visitors put the foot down after lunch in Adelaide
REPLAY: THE PANT SHOW COMES TO A CLOSE
Lyon robbed of a fifth wicket
Starc smiles and lets rip
Starc is back into the attack after being dismantled on all media outlets at the lunch break. He's quickly up over the 140kmh mark bowling around the wicket to the new batsman Ashwin, the spinner who can handle himself with the bat when he feels like it. He shares a smile with the umpire before letting rip with a bouncer that keeps rising and goes over Paine's head for four byes. India are in total control but the Aussie quicks won't make this comfortable for them.
WICKET - PANT 28 (c Finch b Lyon)
Pant didn't die wondering. The field was scattered and Lyon enticed him to go aerial and his open-shouldered hoofs sprays out towards deep cover. It only finds the safe hands of Finch waiting. The lead is 297 with Lyon's figures the only attractive part of the Australian scorecard - he has 4/110.
SESSION TWO: Pant gets stuck in
Lyon opens up for the second stanza of the day with Rahane and Pant resuming. It's the latter who had something spicy to fire himself up from the outset, taking the long handle to the Aussie spinner for 18 runs from the first over of the session. Ouch. Pant doesn't leave anyone guessing but he used his feet well to get down to Lyon and launch him through the legside.
Stumped is a hit for sketchy Seven
Seven's coverage has been mixed at best so far with some classy commentary from the likes of Ricky Ponting and difficult to justify airtime for the likes of Trent Copeland, but their attempts to bring a bit of humour to the coverage will come in handy this summer. With little to talk about after today's extended first session they rolled tape on a cricket quiz with Jason Gillespie, Ricky Ponting and Brad Hodge. It kicked off with Punter having no idea how many double tons he scored in Tests and is the sort of thing you'd expect to be rolled out in the second hour of an extended rain delay, but good fun and a darn sight more entertaining than some of the other wares Seven is flogging in the ad breaks.
LUNCH DAY 4: INDIA 5/260 (lead of 275)
And that's lunch with India very much in the driving seat in Adelaide. Only Nathan Lyon as truly troubled the batsman and has been rewarded with two wickets, Cheteshwar Pujara (71) and Rohit Sharma (1), both from catches close to the wicket. The quicks have toiled in the sunshine on a perfectly decent batting wicket for day four of a Test match with Mitch Starc's form a worry for the hosts. Hazlewood again has been tight and reliable without making any inroads. But the day belongs to India and the excellent Pujara and Rahane, who remains at the crease on 57. Pant is with him on 10.
REPLAY: LYON REMOVES RAHANE, GREAT CATCH HANDSCOMB
Lovely stuff here from Lyon with a catch from Handscomb that even Boony would be pleased with.
Pant here for a good time, not a long one
Rishabh Pant is the new man in and isn't mucking about. The first ball he faces from Lyon is agricultural with a big wind up but he doesn't quite get hold of it. The ball plugs in the outfield at deep mid-on but is a signal of some fun to come. But respect follows with some amused grins from Lyon. Cummins into the attack at the other end for Hazlewood.
WICKET! ROHIT 1 (c Handscomb b Lyon)
The dangerous Rohit Sharma is gone and it's Lyon again with a beauty of a catch at silly-mid-off from Peter Handscomb. Rohit was pushing forward as the ball catches his pad and onto his glove, with Handscomb taking the diving catch one-handed on the edge of the pitch.
