NEW DELHI: Two members of a gang of robbers targeting cab and autorickshaw drivers at IGI airport were arrested on Saturday evening. The two men and their aides used to throw bricks at cars to attack the driver and then robbed them at knife point.
DCP (southwest) Devender Arya said that the accused have been identified as Raju (22) and Lakhan Bhardwaj (26). Their involvement has been found in at least nine cases of armed robberies and theft in the past few months.
The cops started tracking the duo after a cab driver was injured on Thursday night during a robbery bid near the airport bus stand, close to Dwarka underpass. The driver had dropped off a passenger at the domestic terminal of the airport and had stepped out of his vehicle to relieve himself.
He told cops that as soon as he sat back in his car, two men came and smashed the right window pane, and took his car keys and his wallet containing approximately Rs 9,000.
Investigating officers said that a tip-off was received that the accused men roam around Mehram Nagar. A team nabbed them just minutes after they had robbed another cab driver of his belongings.
