Kerala: Essay evaluation done by Deepa Nisanth canceled after protest, 11 held

ALAPPUZHA: The valuation of essay competitions made by author and Kerala Varma college lecturer Deepa Nisanth was cance led following strong protest from ABVP and KSU. The results were declared after conducting the revaluation by writer Santhosh Echikkanam. The revaluation result was approved by 13- member state level appeal committee and it was declared on Sunday.


The arrival of Deepa, who landed in plagiarism row, for the valuations of literary competitions in the state school art festival sparked wide side protest on Saturday. The police arrested 11 ABVP and KSU workers, who reached at Government Servants Cooperative Bank auditorium near collectorate demanding to send back Deepa Nisanth from the valuations. The CPI has also registered its protest for inviting Deepa as the judge. The PWD minister G Sudhakaran also said that the organizing committee was not aware about the arrival of Deepa as the judge of the essay competitions.


While, Deepa was doing the valuation of essay competition at Government Servants Cooperative Bank auditorium on Saturday, the protestors reached there and tried to enter the auditorium. Soon the police team led by Alappuzha DSP P V Baby reached the spot and arrested three ABVP workers and 8 KSU workers. The revaluation of the essay competition was conducted based on the complaints filed by ABVP and KSU.
