‘Students winning medals will be given scholarships’

Vignan Mahostav-2018 comes to a close

Vignan Mahostav-2018, the annual sports meet organised by Vignan University, came to a close on Saturday.

Former international athlete and Assistant Commissioner of GST R. Natarajan was the chief guest. He exhorted the students to dream big.

“Health is the biggest asset in our lives and we can be healthy only by playing sports. Practice yoga regularly as it is the best exercise for health,’’ Mr. Natarajan said.

Calling upon the students to draw inspiration from the Chairman of Vignan Group, Lavu Rathaiah, Mr. Natarajan said he had won a medal in the South Asian Games despite losing one of his thumbs in an accident.

Former physical director of University of Hyderabad R. Narsingh Rao said the time spent at university is the best phase of one’s life and determines the course a student’s future will take.

Chairman Lavu Rathaiah said the University has decided to allot credits to students winning medals from next year. Students winning medals would be given scholarships, he said.

Teams from St. Ann’s Engineering College, Guntur and Vignan Engineering College, Visakhapatnam won first and second prizes in Volleyball, while Vignan University came first in Kabbadi. Chaitanya Group of Institutions, Visakhapatnam came first in Football.
