Isha Ambani wedding: Udaipur handled 141 flights on Saturday, up from daily 32 scheduled

Representative imageNEW DELHI: The fanciest business jets with the who's who of the country and celebrities from abroad have made a beeline for Udaipur's Maharana Pratap Airport in the last two days with the Lake City hosting the pre-wedding celebrations of Mukesh Ambani's daughter Isha with Anand Piramal over the weekend.
Udaipur, which has 16 schedule commercial flight arrivals and as many departures daily, saw as many as 71 landings and 70 take offs on Saturday with invitees like Hillary Clinton and Sachin Tendulkar flying into one of India's most beautiful cities. Friday saw 54 aircraft arrivals and 52 departures.
"Schedule airlines operated extra flights to and from Udaipur this week. There has been a sharp rise in charter movement too. This has been one of the busiest time for the Maharana Pratap Airport," said a source. Last two days saw commercial flights to and from the Lake City getting delayed due to the sudden surge in air traffic. Charters flying in VVIPs had to be accorded priority landing.
The Isha-Anand wedding is in Mumbai on Wednesday (December 12). Udaipur hosted the pre-wedding celebrations over the weekend. Udaipur's Maharana Pratap Airport, like other airports in Rajasthan, had seen a rise in number of charters in recent days due to electioneering. Actor Priyanka Chopra tied the knot with Nick Jonas in Jodhpur recently.
"Italy stole the limelight by hosting two big Indian weddings in recent times - Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli and Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh. The Ambani pre-wedding celebrations in Udaipur and Priyanka Chopra's wedding in Jodhpur have brought the spotlight back on India in general and Rajasthan in particular. In terms of grandeur, luxury, scale and very simply the awe factor, very few places come close to the venues Rajasthan offers - heritage properties, top of the line luxury hotels and properties on lakeside and in middle of lake and desert," said a hospitality industry insider who did not wish to be named.
