HYDERABAD: With matrimonial frauds on the rice, police have observed that most victims of such frauds are divorcees and widowed women. The number of such cases stand at 15 this year as compared to 10 last year. "As many as five such cases have been recorded in the past seven months," said S Harinath, ACP cybercrime of the Rachakonda police.
"Nowadays, most matrimonial websites have their own portals for divorcees. The accused trap women through such portals," said the ACP. The accused after talking for a couple of weeks, tell the victim about his visit to India or send gifts for the victim. "A fake officer from customs department calls the victim saying that she needs to pay money to claim the gifts. Sometimes, the fake officer will say that the person has been taken into custody as he was carrying a lot of gold and money," added the ACP. After the victim transfers money to individual accounts, the accused stops contacting her.
