Man caught using beacon, tries to escape in Navi Mumbai

NAVI MUMBAI: A motorist, Swapnil Bamane (27), has been booked for using an amber beacon by placing it on his car's dashboard. When a head constable spotted the beacon in the car in Kharghar on the Sion-Panvel highway on Friday afternoon and tried to stop the Bamane, the latter tried to flee. However, Bamane ran out of luck as he got caught up in a traffic jam.
Maruti Sanap (46) registered an FIR at Kharghar police station. Bamane, a Digha resident, is a driver of a bank employee.
He was booked under sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation) and 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) of IPC along with Section 108 (prohibits use of amber beacon for those other than government officials) of Central Motor Vehicle Act. He showed the visiting card of an MLA and said he worked for him.
