KANPUR: As many as 10 persons, including the kingpin, were arrested on Saturday by the Special Task Force for providing 'solvers' to the candidates in the ongoing Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Group-D Examination-2018.
"The arrests have been made from Kalyanpur area of the city. The modus operandi of the gang is to provide 'solvers', who impersonate the candidates and appear for the examination on their behalf," police said.
STF have recovered 11 mobile phones, 21 admit cards, one fake voter ID card, five blank cheques, three driving licenses, one Paytm card, 19 Aadhar cards, six ATM cards, three PAN cards, a motorcycle, three driving license, one scooty and Rs 56,000 in cash. The gang used to take Rs 5 to 6 lakh from each candidate and send fake examinees as impersonators to appear for the ongoing Group-D examination of the railways which started in September. Over 62,000 posts would be filled by means of the exam.
"The breakthrough was made following arrest of a solver in TET exam in Moradabad recently," said in charge of STF's Kanpur region Ghanshyam Yadav, adding that the gang used to charge Rs 5 to 6 lakh from each candidate for appearing as a solver in exam. STF had got a tip-off that gang members would be coming to Kalyanpur for Group-D exam and try to get these solvers to take the exam instead of the actual candidates.
