FALL RIVER — An overnight fire on Friday at 162 Columbia St. that displaced five people and shut down Duke’s Bakery, located on the bottom floor, was electrical in nature, according to the Fall River Fire Department.

Fire investigator Capt. Neil Furtado said that more than likely multiple space heaters plugged into electrical outlets started the blaze on the second floor of the structure.

A pet dog died in the fire, Furtado said, but no other injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.

A Facebook posting by Duke’s Bakery owners indicate the business is temporarily shut down due to smoke damage and is hard at getting the shop up and running again.
