Australia v India Live: Khawaja throws wicket away as survival hopes dim

Sharma back into the attack

Ishant Sharma is back into the action, replacing Bumrah. He's still getting this ball to move with 20 overs left in the day, at least. He gets one to jag back into Handscomb and is enjoying late swing with this 30-over old ball. His frequent no balls today have come under the microscope.

Credit where it's due for Ashwin

Khawaja's brain fade put him in the stands for the rest of this Test but Ashwin is bowling brilliantly. Not a huge turner of the ball, his variations of speed, angle and bounce have brought two of Aussie top order unstuck.

Can Marsh stand up... again?

What a chance for Shaun Marsh to be a superhero here as he negotiates another Ashwin over. Handscomb is deep in the crease, as he does, and looking solid in defence against the quicks before popping Bumrah to the midwicket boundary. Both looking solid with a minimum 23 overs to play today. After that there's just, um, another entire day to go. They've gone over 62 overs together before...

WICKET - KHAWAJA 8 (c Sharma b Ashwin)

Uzzy, Uzzy, Uzzy. The No.3, supposedly Australia's rock and most disciplined player, has thrown his wicket away. The pressure had built up and he went for the big one again from Ashwin but never got to it and it's skied to Sharma, who took a brilliant catch falling forward.

Close calls for Khawaja

Bumrah is looking dangerous to Khawaja from around the wicket. He's hitting the seam hard and just misses the No.3's outside edge. Ashwin still operating from the other end and also causing havoc. Khawaja charges and tries to send him over mid-wicket with an uncharacteristically uncontrolled shot. He's lucky the ball collects his leg on the way through as he rushes back into his crease. Australia trail by 263 with eight wickets in hand.

50 up, trail by 270, Marsh cutting beautifully

Shaun Marsh looks strong behind point as Ashwin strays into short territory. He opens the face for a well-timed boundary and goes to the same area behind backward point for two. If Marsh is in rusty nick (not backed up by his Shield numbers of late), someone has forgotten to let him know.

Marsh has form to chase at Adelaide

The axes are being sharpened for Shaun Marsh but he gets off the mark dispatching Ashwin to the onside boundary for four. He may not have cracked 20-plus in recent history but this wicket and a chase is something he showed he can handle for WA recently.

WICKET - HARRIS 26 (c Pant b Shami) Australia 2-44

Marcus Harris' charmed existence doesn't last as he goes way too hard at one too close to cut and edges Shami to the gloves of Pant. Grim viewing for the Aussies now as Shaun Marsh comes to the crease. Big chance to answer his many critics.

Harris cashes in against Ashwin

Two beauties from Harris after that life in the previous over. He's surrounded by catchers on the off side but gets down on one knee to drive through cover for four. He then casually flicks Ashwin off his pads for a four through mid-wicket. A calmly guided single behind point completes the treat. Then Khawaja is off the mark with a streaky cut towards point that falls short of Ishant. An ambitious but not impossible 282 to go...

Harris dropped at slip

Harris pushes at Shami and gets a genuine edge into the slips, but Kohli has his cordon spread out leave Pujara to dive in front of what would almost be a conventional third slip. He got a good hand to it and it would have been a cracking catch, but Shami misses out.
