Car showroom worker flees with Rs 60 lakh

AHMEDABAD: Navrangpura police on Saturday filed a complaint of theft against an employee of an automobile showroom near Gandhigram railway station, for fleeing with Rs 60 lakh cash which he was supposed to hand over to his employer.
According to a complaint filed by the accountant of the automobile firm — Pankaj Taylor, their employee, Pradip Maheria, a resident of Meghaninagar, who has been working with them since 2010, fled with the cash on Friday evening.
“I had asked Maheria to hand over a bag containing Rs 45 lakh cash to our employer Kanaiyalal Thakkar at his house in Thaltej. I also sent another employee Jagat Bhavsar along with Maheria to hand over the money. Later, I asked Maheria to collect another Rs 15 lakh cash fromanother showroom near Parimal Garden which he did and informed me also,” said Taylor in the complaint.
After a while, when Taylor called up Maheria again, his phone was switched off. Out of suspicion, he then, called up Bhavsar and asked about Maheria. Bhavsar told him that Maheria had asked him to leave for some work and assured that he would return in five minutes when they reached near Iscon Arcade on CG road. But, Maheria did not turn up even after a couple of hours. Taylor then reported his employer of the incident.
Taylor, along with other employees of the showroom then rushed to CG Road and searched for Maheria but failed to see him anywhere. After this, Taylor approached Navrangpura police and filed a complaint of theft against Maheria.
Navrangpura police have also started collecting CCTV footage of the area to lern about Maheria’s movements. Sources said that Maheria had also switched his cellphone off so that he may not be tracked by anyone.
Police are asking Maheria’s relatives and locals near his house in Meghaninagar about his whereabouts and continuing investigation.
