SRINAGAR: At least two terrorists were killed and an Army jawan and cop injured in an encounter at Mujgund on Srinagar-Bandipora road on Saturday.
The encounter began late afternoon when a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and CRPF, and Army’s Rashtriya Rifles launched a cordon-and-search operation at Mujgund, based on specific intelligence inputs. As the team zeroed in on a house, the terrorists fired at security personnel, triggering a fierce gunfight, said a senior police officer.
He added that the gunfight continued through the day, causing injuries to an SOG personnel and an Army jawan. The two have been admitted to a hospital.
The officer said that firing stopped in the evening and the team spotted two bodies of the slain terrorists but they could not be retrieved.
“There were inputs about the presence of three terrorists. While two of them were killed, the whereabouts of the third remains unknown,” he said.
Local sources said three houses suffered damages in the gunfight, one of them substantially.
