Kolkata/Cooch Behar: BJP’s Bengal unit has filed a caveat in the Supreme Court to ensure that it does not go unheard in case the Mamata Banerjee government appeals against the Calcutta high court order on the party’s rath yatra programme.

A division bench of Justice Biswanath Somadder and Justice Arindam Mukherjee had on Friday directed the Bengal government to talk to BJP and announce its decision on the programme by next week. In doing so, the bench overturned a single-bench order putting the rath yatra on hold till January 9. “We fear the Bengal government may move SC against the HC order and have filed a caveat so that we get a hearing (if that happens),” Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said.

BJP’s legal move coincided with a party delegation calling on state chief secretary Moloy De. “We asked him to give us a date before December 12,” leader Mukul Roy said.
