4th edition of Konark International Cyclothon begins

BHUBANESWAR: Thirty cyclists from different fields including doctors, teachers, film stars and youngsters on Saturday embarked on the 4th edition of Konark International Cyclothon ‘Tour de Odisha’. The cyclothon will cover 1300 kms from Bhubaneswar to Koraput and back and will spread various social messages along its route. Governor of Odisha Prof Ganeshi Lal flagged off the cycle trail at Raj Bhawan here on Saturday, which will conclude on December 29.
“This year’s Cyclothon is the longest that will cover the coastal line and the beautiful green mountain terrain of the Eastern Ghats showcasing the serene beauty of Odisha to the world. During the trail our participants will spread various social messages among the public, meet people and interact with them,” said Badri Nath Mishra, one of the organisers.
The cycle tour will cover places like Chilika, Rambha, Chandragiri, Eastern Ghat, Daringi badi, Phulbani, Nayagarh before concluding at the Sabara Khetra of Koraput. “It will certainly be a memorable trip for the participants along the serene and picturesque Odisha,” said Mishra.
"Pollution has become the major killer and problem in most cities of India. While vehicular emission is the major cause of the pollution by conducting this cycling trail we want to promote pedalling among the people. It will not only protect the environment but also keep one fit and healthy,” said Lt Col Dr Parminder Kaur, a participant.
