Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil on Friday directed the Industries and Commerce Departments to prepare a vision document to facilitate industrial development in the district.

Chairing a meeting on the same in the district here, Mr. Senthil said the document should map out steps already taken to promote industries and those proposed for further development, including infrastructure.

The document should be ready by the next meeting, he said, and stressed that industrial development should foster employment generation.

A representative from Kanara Small Industries Association said Ganjimutt Gram Panchayat has been sending notices to the Export Promotion Industrial Park to pay property tax. While the panchayat has the right to collect property tax at the rate of 1% of the property value, it should be asked to collect the minimum tax in view of facilitating more industries coming up in the region, the representative said. Mr. Senthil asked the concerned to write to the panchayat in this regard.

Regarding developing industries in and around Puttur, an official from the Industries Department said discussions were held with the Puttur City Municipal Council Chief Officer on augmenting infrastructure at Puttur Industrial Area.
