Mumbai: Sixty-year-old Laxman Wagh, who was injured in the Slum Rehabilitation Authority building fire, succumbed at Nair Hospital on Friday, taking the death toll to two.
An elderly woman had died soon after she was taken to the hospital on Sunday. Wagh had sustained burn inhalation injuries. According to Bharat Chavan, a resident of the building, Wagh used to sleep in the building’s corridors. “He had no relatives. He would sleep in the building’s passage,” Mr. Chavan said. Dr. Ramesh Bharmal, Dean, Nair Hospital, said Wagh had developed an infection due to the smoke inhalation injuries, which led to his death. “He had burn injuries on his face and hands as well,” Dr. Bharmal said, adding only seven patients remain hospitalised. “All patients are stable,” he said.
