Three members of Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang were arrested on Friday after a brief exchange of fire, the police said on Saturday. They said that the accused were planning to kill members of their rival gang Manjit Mahal.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said that the accused have been identified as Nakul Sangwan, Tarun and Rohit Gahlawat.
The police said that on November 20, Manjit Mahal’s accomplice, identified as Roshan alias Chhota, was murdered allegedly by members of the Nandu gang.
Tip-off
The team, which was investigating the case found out that a wanted criminal, Vikas alias P.K., is involved in the murder and is hiding in Nandu’s house in Najafgarh.
“Acting on the tip-off, a trap was laid outside his house. The members inside sensed police presence, but were unaware that they had been completely surrounded. Three of them came out and tried to flee,” Mr. Alphonse said, adding that when they saw the officers, they even fired three rounds. The police also fired two rounds, the officer said, but no person sustained injuries.
The three gang members then surrendered to the police, Mr. Alphonse said. The police said that Vikas was, however, not found.
During interrogation, Nakul told the police that he is associated with the Nandu gang for the last three years and looks after their court matters.
“On Friday, they had gathered at the house to plan the murder of close accomplices of Manjit Majal. They were waiting for their accomplice Monu Chandwala, who along with Amit Gulia had arranged weapon for them, to come. Monu was supposed to provide them details about the person who they were planning to eliminate,” Mr. Alphonse said.
Nakul also told the investigators that the three of them wanted to provide security to his cousin Kapil Sangwan by escorting him to and from jail for his court proceedings. He said they were apprehensive about his murder by members of their rival gang.
Pistols, cartridges seized
The police have seized a pistol made in Turkey, along with 10 live cartridges and two countrymade pistols with seven live cartridges from the possession of the accused.
