Ludhiana municipal corporation reduces one more hour in water supply timings
Nidhi Bhardwaj | TNN | Dec 8, 2018, 22:57 ISTLUDHIANA: Seeing the depleting water level of industrial town, the civic officials have reduced one more hour in the daily water supply to the city residents from the tube wells. From Saturday onwards the new directions have been implemented by the tube well operators after getting directions from the officials.
The officials claimed that it will help in saving ground water as well as electricity bills will also come down. There are over 1000 tube wells in the city for supplying water to the residents for household and other purposes. The supply has been cut short in the evening hours.
Already on November 2 the civic authorities had cut down water supply timings from 10 hours in a day to 8 hours and now people will get water supply for 7 hours in one day. The water supply timings have been reduced in the evening hours whereas morning and afternoon timings will remain the same.
Though officials are taking the plea of saving ground water by reducing the water supply timings but the actual reason is to reduce the burden on the sewerage treatment plants which are unable to treat the sewerage water coming in large quantity.
The sources also revealed that officials are planning to fix these timings permanently even in the summer season too when people demand for water supply for at least 12-13 hours in one day. The superintending engineer of operation and maintenance cell Ravinder Garg said, “We have issued the orders already and tube well operators have been told to implement the orders from Saturday onwards. It will save water from getting wasted because in winter season there is lesser demand especially in the evening hours but some people are habitual of putting their taps on even if water is not required."
