Seven people have been killed following a crash on the R614 near Appelsbosch in KwaZulu-Natal, paramedic services have said.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mckenzie said one other person had sustained critically injuries and was taken to hospital.

"The cause of the crash, between a car and bakkie, is unknown at this stage," he said.

Police were on the scene to investigate.
