A 28-year-old daily wager, who sexually abused two minor girls, was awarded double life term by a mahila court in Namakkal district on Friday.

Based on a complaint from the victims’ family, the Tiruchengode All Women Police Station (AWPS) registered a case and arrested Anand.
On hearing the case, the mahila court judge Elango sentenced him to double life. Elango also slapped a fine amount of Rs 6,000 on Anand and added that failure to pay the same will attract another 18 months of prison time. Anand has been lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
According to the prosecution, M Anand, a construction labourer from Satya Nagar near Pallipalayam, had sexually abused the girls in his neighbourhood. They were studying in Class 4 and 5 respectively. He also threatened them against informing the incident to their parents.
