The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body of the Union Ministry of Power, invited Andhra Pradesh to showcase its best practices on the energy efficiency front during the Energy Efficiency Training Week for India being conducted in collaboration with the International Energy Agency in New Delhi from December 10 to 13.
According to an official release, BEE director-general Abhay Bhakre stated in a communication to Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary (energy), and AP State Energy Conservation Mission CEO A. Chandra Sekhar Reddy that A.P. was working with passion towards implementing energy efficiency measures and it had become a role model for others by implementing various programmes like LED street lighting.
Mr. Bhakre stated that the primary energy demand in India had grown from about 450 million tons of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2000 to about 770 million TOE in 2012. It was expected to increase up to 1,500 million TOE by 2030.
Annual supply
The average annual energy supply in India in 2011 was only 0.6 TOE per capita, whereas the global average was 1.88 TOE per capita.
Keeping this in view, the Ministry of Power stressed the need for all the States to meet their targets on the energy efficiency front in order to address the global challenge of climate change.
Quality power
Accordingly, A.P., Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and the North-Eastern States were fully focusing on implementation of energy efficiency, which also helps in providing quality and reliable power.
