A baby boy has been killed in a traffic accident involving a taxi at the Gold Coast on Friday morning.

The one-year-old died at the scene, the Queensland Police Service said.

The accident happened on Excalibur Court in the Sovereign Islands community about 10.50am.

The baby's aunt and the driver of the taxi were taken to a Gold Coast hospital suffering shock.

Police would not confirm whether the baby was a passenger in a vehicle.
