If you are planning to board a bus from any of the two halting points, on Sardar Patel Road towards Anna University, you should be ready to play a guessing game.
There is one halting point for route numbers 49, 549, T70 and 54F proceeding towards Guindy, Poonamallee and Sriperumbudur stop.
The other halting point is for 23C, 5E, 47 and 47A proceeding towards Anna Salai, Villivakkam and the Integral Coach Factory. But, a majority of bus commuters are left clueless about which bus would stop where. “There is no board at each of the two halting points to tell commuters what route numbers to expect there,” says S. Nandhini, a commuter. If you are not a regular commuter at this bus stop, you realise only later that you are waiting at the halting point.
As the footpath is broken and the carriageway is often chocked with vehicles, shuttling between the stops is not at all easy. The halting points located near a row of commercial establishments. At times, commuters have to squeeze in through the vehicles parked abutting the pavements to board the buses. “There is always confusion at these stops as there are no display boards at both of them,” says R. Jagadeesh, a commuter. The stretch gets messy during a rain. Commuters want MTC and the Greater Chennai Corporation to install boards displaying route numbers at the earliest. MTC officials say they will look into the issue.
