For the first time, no USS Arizona survivors will attend the annual ceremony to commemorate the attack on Pearl Harbor.????December 7th, 1941 is known as a day of “infamy” which pulled the US into World War II when Japan attacked the Pearl Harbor naval base.??????There are only a few survivors left out of the 300, and they’re all in their 90’s.
Hawaii News Now reports it’s too difficult for most of them to travel.??????Congress designated December 7th as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in August of 1994.????Historian Daniel Martinez estimates around 100 World War II veterans will be at this years ceremony.??????Although someday all of the survivors will be gone, he told Hawaii News Now that they’re fortunate that some of the stories of USS Arizona survivors have been captured on video.??????For those who want to visit the memorial, it is currently closed for renovations until March.
