A Bangladeshi national was arrested by the Sahar police for allegedly carrying a forged passport and visa documents. The arrest was made at the Mumbai international airport on Thursday where the accused, identified as Humayun Surot Ali (30) was picked up by the immigration officers.

Ali was preparing to board a flight to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Further interrogation helped the police to nab him before he managed to leave the country.

According to the police, Ali is a resident of Bangladesh and frequently crossed the border to West Bengal side where his accomplice Balu Dalu helped him. Dalu is an agent who helped Ali prepare a fake passport and other relevant documents which would have helped him fly out of India at the earliest.

"During the intervening night of December 5 and Thursday, Ali had come to the airport to board flight number 6E-61 which was bound to UAE. He was carrying documents of his work permit which showed that he was working for a Dubai-based firm. When the officers from the immigration department asked some basic routine questions, he was unable to give satisfactory answers. Later, he refused to comply with the officers and gave all answers in Bengali, which deepened the suspicion against him. The passport he was carrying had name of a Miah Sahidul which turned out to be fake when checked." said a police officer investigating the case.

"When confronted, Ali said that since 2015 he has been easily travelling in and out of India by crossing the border. He also said that agent Dalu was given Rs 20,000 by him in return of a fake passport and visa documents. This was to settle abroad and find a job to earn well. All the documents were prepared from an office in West Bengal after which Ali came prepared to catch the plane from Mumbai but was caught at last moment. His visa number VK 9252359 and passport number S-8869524 turned out to be forged when all the documents were ran through IVFRT & UCF (Immigration, Visa, Foreigner's Registration & Tracking and Unique Case File) security checks. As of now, the case has been registered under Section 465, 468, 471, 419, 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant Sections of The Passports Act," the officer added.

After the arrest, the Sahar police is ascertaining the reason why Ali wanted to go to the UAE. They are also trying to trace the miscreants behind forging of passport.
