Taxi and autorickshaw drivers are planning to stage a protest on December 13 against Mahanagar Gas Limited’s new e-token system for booking slots for filling CNG. The system was rolled out in three CNG filling stations of the firm recently as a pilot project.
A.L. Quadros, general secretary of Mumbai Taximen’s Union, said, “Several drivers don’t have smartphones. A slot is usually assigned within two to three hours after the online booking and drivers are often not able to reach the station on time, losing their slot.” Mr. Quadros said the drivers will be now forced to fill CNG at stations run by dealers, where there are huge queues.
A company statement said, “They have the option of booking their slot by downloading MGL e-token app or by sending an SMS with details of their vehicle number and convenient time slot on a specified number.”
