Police officer acquitted of assaulting Corinna Horvath in 1996

A serving Victorian policeman has been found not guilty of assaulting a woman in her own home more than 22 years ago, in what was a long-running allegation of police brutality.

David Laurence Jenkin, 49, was on Friday found not guilty by a County Court jury of four charges over allegations he unlawfully punched Corinna Horvath in the face in her Hastings home on March 9, 1996.

Ms Horvath, who was 21 at the time, suffered a broken nose, facial swelling and black eyes and soon after spent five days in hospital for treatment.

Leading Senior Constable Jenkin, who is now based at Myrtleford, closed his eyes tight and breathed heavily when the last of the four not-guilty verdicts was announced.

Ms Horvath, who was in court with two supporters, had her head down when she heard the verdicts.
