Kevin Hart quits 2019 Oscars host job after "insensitive" tweets resurface

Comedian Kevin Hart is stepping down from hosting this year's Oscars.

The gig was only announced on Tuesday but homophobic tweets he posted on twitter years ago resurfaced following his appointment.

Hart tweeting he did not want to be a distraction.

Adding that he quote: "apologizes to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past." It had appeared that he'd try to ride out the criticism.

Posting on his instagram earlier that people should stop looking for reasons to be negative.

In another video he said he'd been called by the academy and asked to apologise or another host would be found.

Saying he chose to pass on the apology.

It now appears he's changed his mind.

And will step down from a job he called days ago 'an opportunity of a lifetime.'
